About Jessica Tabakin | Mama Doula LLC
You deserve the best postpartum support and care
Thank you for visiting Mama Doula Care Services! I became a birth professional a decade plus ago, after working social service jobs, in the food service industry, with children and At Risk Youth. Pregnancy and parenting a newborn were transformative. The maternal nature of the birth professionals I encountered while pregnant drew me in and functioned as an informal mentorship; a Childbirth Educator who taught as a retired Nurse and Birth Doula, a well-seasoned Midwife and Birth Doula guided the way, along with the written works of Ina May Gaskin and Sheila Kitzinger. This combined with formal training laid the tracks to a new career.

Training
Jessica, AKA Mama Doula is Certified and professionally trained as a Postpartum Doula, from the Simkin Center of Allied Birth Vocations at Bastyr University in 2010. Her training is on-going in relevant subjects such as the science of sleep and feeding cycles for newborns, parental postpartum mental health, PMADS or Postpartum mood disorder and anxiety, PTSD, in Lactation education, relationship changes after a baby is born, childbirth education, serving GBLTQ families, cultural competency and more. Jessica has taught cooking classes to Doulas about Lactogenic foods and served over 150 Seattle area’s diverse array of families. Her latest training was a CLE, Certified Lactation Education, so she could be more effective in assisting lactating parents with infant feeding issues.
In 2016, Jessica became a CNA, Certified Nursing Assistant. While remaining working with newborns and feeding families, her career shifted to supporting people at the end of life’s spectrum. Like with Postpartum Care, the work continued to be based in homes, just with a different population, Elders, people with physical or cognitive disabilities, assisting with ADLs, activities of daily living. Then to gain experience in a new setting, she switched to working at an Assisted living facility. Here, she received Nurse Delegate training, or ability to dispense medication under an RN’s license, training in how to effectively assist people afflicted by Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Mental Health Issues. All of this showed her that feeding families was by far her favorite tool of health care, as a form of disease prevention, tackling chronic health issues and as a way of caring for people.
